Piper was a white tan and black spotted calico who was the one female I truly loved. She had already passed when I painted this picture. I did not have a lot of pictures of her (no digital cameras in the 1980s), but I found one of her resting in the sun on my glass dining room table. Terrible composition. But she, like always, was beautiful.

I chose to paint her resting on the white sofa that I had owned when she was alive. The white on white I thought made a good composition and the pillows of the sofa reminded me of the best part of the almost two decades she was with me. I added the ribbon because it added color and she loved ribbons. Of course, most cats do.
